Which One Works for You? The SG-40 vs the SG-40W

Bandit’s SG-40 and SG40W stump grinders stand out from the competition due to their formidable cutting ability, enhanced operator visibility and exceptional maneuverability. When placed side-by-side, it can be difficult to choose which one is ideal for the specific task at hand.

Whether you need a grinder like the SG-40 that’s capable of accessing challenging areas or one designed to maneuver through less firm soil conditions like the SG-40W, we’ll provide you with the necessary details to help you make the choice that’s right for you.

Shared Characteristics

Intuitive Controls

Both the SG-40 and SG-40W’s 3-position console put you in charge of all cutter wheel functions – providing you with added versatility and productivity. Designed with your comfort in mind, the control levers are strategically positioned to cater to your needs. The pivoting console, located at the rear, gives you a clear view of the grinding process.

Powerful EFI Engine

Thanks to these stump grinders’ intuitive controls, starting up the engine is a breeze, no matter your level of expertise. Featuring a powerful 38 horsepower EFI engine enhanced with cutting-edge electronic fuel injection, this engine is specifically tailored to those who prioritize reliable engines that deliver ampler power.

Aggressive Cutting Action

Both grinders are equipped with an aggressive belt-drive cutter wheel, powering through any stump in their path. Available cutter options include a Bandit wheel with Greenteeth or a New Revolution with hex teeth, giving you the option to choose the configuration that works best for you.

Differing Drive Systems

The SG-40 – Durable Track Drive System

The SG-40’s track drive system was designed to give you the ease to travel over terrain conditions that are inaccessible to conventional rubber tires. The SG-40s track drive system gives you the ability to reach remote or challenging locations that would otherwise be difficult to access. In addition, its turf-friendly tracks are designed to leave minimal footprints and onsite damage.

The SG-40W – Durable Drive System with Flotation Tires

The SG-40W’s self-propelled drive system features flotation tires that allow it to effortlessly navigate through softer soil conditions while leaving minimal imprints behind. With the added benefit of a counterbalance valve, it ensures that there’s no backward movement or creeping while grinding. Another feature that makes the SG-40W user-friendly and a pleasure to operate.

The measurements of the SG-40 and SG-40W show only minimal variation from each other, as they largely share similar characteristics. Refer to the following charts below to see the distinctions.
